Oh how I love Coconut Oil! It reminds me of being on a far off tropical island the minute I open the jar and smell the light coconut scent. If only finding yourself on a tropical island were that easy! No but seriously, I am a total coconut oil junkie. I use it not only for cooking but for pretty much everything related to beauty. How better to simplify your life than to have a wonder treatment in one jar! Here are some of my absolute favorite, simple but effective uses. If you are not already a regular user of coconut oil outside the kitchen you may just want to give one of these beauty treatments a try.
10 Amazing Uses:
1. Deodarant: Ok, so I have not personally tried this but my twin sister swears by it! I think once summer is over I will work up the courage to give it a try. You mix coconut oil with baking sod. I will be updating this with a link to the recipe my sister uses soon. We are going to do a little DIY project when she visits in a few weeks.
- Eye Makeup Remover: This is one of my top uses for coconut oil. The key here is to make sure if you where contacts that you either remove them first or be really careful not to get the oil in your eyes. If you do you will have to take your contacts out and clean them. My favorite eye make up remove to use when I leave my contacts in is an all natural baby shampoo. I will cover that in an upcoming post. I like to apply a warm compress to my eyes first to remove or loosen a bit of the eye makeup and then rub a small amount of the coconut oil over my lids and lashes and then wipe off with a tissue and rinse with water.
- Cleanser: Remove eye make up first so you can see what you are doing and then scoop a small amount out and rub all over your face. Apply a warm to hot compress and gently rub your face to remove the oil. Rinse and wipe again and then splash face with water. Pat dry and add eye cream and moisturizer if you choose. Now you might be freaking out if you have oily skin. Do not fear. Because of the caprilyc and lauric acid in coconut oil it has anti-microbial and disinfectant qualities that make it amazing for fighting breakouts.
- Body Lotion: It can be used all over to moisture skin. Just take a small amount and rub all over or focus on dry patches. Its also great added into homemade beauty products if you want to get fancy.
- Cuticle Cream: I like to keep a small jar in my bag so that I can touch up my dry cuticles on the go or as a spot treatment.
- Nail Polish Quick Dry: Most store bought nail polish quick drys have oil in them. I love using coconut oil to set my nail polish in a pinch. Gently rub a small amount into hands/feet and nails. Its a great finishing touch to a mani or pedi.
- Tooth Whitener: Swish in mouth for 15-20 min and then spit out. By doing this you are also gaining the benefits of oil pulling which is great for increased oral health and detoxification. Make you don’t spit it down the sink because the oil can clog your drain over time.
- Scrub: Mix with sugar or salt and rub all over body for an amazing moisturizing exfoliation treatment.
- Lip Balm: Rub on dry lips.
- Hair Mask: Rub a decent amount into ends of hair all the way up to scalp. Wrap hair in a plastic bag and let it soak in for 10 min to over night. Your hair won’t know what hit it!
- Gua Sha: Coconut oil is the perfect oil to use when you give yourself a gua sha treatment either on your face or body. It creates the perfect slip.
So there you have it. All these wonderful beauty treatments in one jar! Which one are you going to try first?
